Details of Achievements

Provided scholarships to 10,000 children of poor widows and supported over 60,000 of their family members. Provided vocational training in garment making to 120 Indian widows, 40 of whom were jail inmates. Our major achievement has been the publication of World Widows Report. This comprehensive research study was launched at a parallel event during the 60th anniversary meeting of the UN Commission on the Status of Women in New York on 17th March, 2016.

Not Specified Any Other 2016-2017 Not Specified In India, Mr. Pratap Singh, Country Head of The Loomba Foundation and Mrs. Monica Dhawan, Director of the India Vision Foundation distributed the ‘certificates of proficiency’ to the widows and destitute inmates of Faridabad jail who had successfully completed vocational training in garment making. The project was launched last year by Dr. Kiran Bedi and Lord Loomba for the benefit of 120 widows including 40 inmates in the female wards of the Gurgaon and Faridabad jails.
Department of NRI Affairs Government of Punjab State 2013-2014 5000000 In 2012, the Loomba Foundation launched a new initiative project to empower 10,000 poor widows in India by providing each with training in garment-making as well as a sewing machine. This scheme has directly benefited some 100,000 dependents by supporting the family and enabling children to continue in education. In August 2014, Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal launched an empowerment scheme for 5,000 widows in the State of Punjab.
