Details of Achievements

Tara Projects Association has been serving marginalized communities in Northern India i.e. Delhi- and its sub-urban areas, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh since 1999 through a number of socio- economic developmental actions, benefiting marginalized and underprivileged sections of the society. Its community development programmes are sustained through its production and trade activities based on Fair Trade standards and values. The organization was founded by Prof. Shyam S. Sharma, Sister Stephanie Mass and by other likeminded educationist and social activists. Tara has been a catalyst in the battle against human exploitation, poverty, illiteracy and slavery that deprives them of dignity and identity, subjecting them to social advantage and exclusion. It has been engaged in sustainable livelihood generation activities in artisan communities. It is also working against the evil of child labour and running a number of learning as well as vocational training centres. A large number of children from the weaker section of societies are also supported through education sponsorship programme. Health care programme for the marginalized particularly the artisans communities is provision as one of the need of the time. Health insurance facilities as well as medical support are provided by organizing health camps to benefit the larger community. Protection of environment and sustainable ecology is one of the main concerns of the organization. Training is provided from time to time to encourage developing eco friendly recyclable waste products. Rain water harvesting and tree plantation programmes are also carried out regularly. Water conservation programmes, rain water harvesting, climate change and other are organized in solidarity with the likeminded organizations. A number of Self Help Groups are also organized in its working areas. The members are encouraged to save money regularly and are motivated to initiate their livelihood generation programmes. The deserving members are also supported through micro credit programme on regular basis. Tara’s vision is to further consolidate the mission by expanding the developmental base, upgrading and exploring new avenues by sustaining and empowering the under privileged through support generated by economic solidarity actions, micro credit support and other community development actions.
