Details of Achievements

We are a registered NGO with16 years of hands on experience in advocacy and empowerment of persons(with special emphasis on children and women)with disability.Our basic aim is to educate train and assist them in finding their rightful place in the society and ensuretheir inclusion in all fields. Located at New Delhi we run a special school for children with intellectual disabiityin the age group of 5 to 16 years. On graduating from here the youngsters move to our vocationaltraining and production center where they are trained inskills and trades to enable them to earn aliving and stand on their own feet. Besides this we have an independent living center for persons with disability,an established parent support network and an extremely effective legal aid cell for providing pro -bonolegal counsel and spreading legal awareness among disabled people in disadvantaged areas. We have ubdertaken a number of research projects on behalf of the Government and other agencies which are working in the area of disability. An extensive website on disability related information(www.disabilityindia.org )is yet another effort in enabling empowerment. On 3rd December 2008, the honourable Vice President conferred the National Award for empowerment of disabled people to Society for Child Development in recognition of the outstanding contribution made by the NGO. The number of disabled children / youth who benefitted from our work in 2009 are listed below 1.Special Education,training and Therapy 1660 2.Imparted vocational training 80 3. Enabled ability to earn livelihood 40 4.Provided pro-bono legal services 350 5.Guided & assissted in slums to claim legitimate entitlements and rights 4500 6.Personal legal advise rendered to 15 7.Answered legal queries of disabled people by mail 1500 8. Diseminated information through our web site 100000 9. Conducted Trainig workshops & discussions for stake holders of disabled people 16000 Approx 19000 disabled people directly benefitted from our programs and there were 84000 indirect beneficiaries
