Details of Achievements

Centre for Environment Education (CEE) has 30 plus offices all over India and international offices in Australia, Sri Lanka and Germany to develop locale specific programmes and materials. CEE is identified as the National Host Institution for UNDP GEF Small Grants Programme. CEE is a partner to UNEP Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific for implementing IEC strategy for Montreal Protocol in 24 countries. CEE has been endowed with series of recognitions and awards including The India NGO Award 2007 for the western region in the large scale NGO category and recent 2009 Ozone Layer Protection Award, Untied States Environmental Protection Agency for leadership in ozone layer protection. CEE is the nodal agency under the Ministry of Environment and forests for Decade for Education for Sustainable Development of UNEP and First International Conference on Education for a Sustainable Future to mark the UN DESD in January 2005 at Ahmedabad. CEE also hosted 4th International Conference on Environment Education in 2007. The Conference had over 1500 participants from 97 countries across the globe and resulted in Ahmedabad Declaration on overall Conference recommendation based on thematic discussions. Over the years, the activities and approaches of CEE in the field of eco development got diversified into community development, Joint Forest Management, disaster management, eco entrepreneurship development, sustainable livelihood through natural resource management and water and sanitation management. CEE has initiated education and capacity building programmes to promote sustainable development and cadre building efforts in rural areas. CEE has hosted series of initiatives including distance learning. It takes part in National Green Corps programme in schools. CEE has wide experience in developing educational materials and other resources for Central and State education departments and has reached out to over 200000 schools in various parts of the country through its Kaun Banega Bharat ka Paryavaran Ambassador Campaign. CEE has also been involved in disaster rehabilitation programmes in Gujarat, after the 2001 earthquake; in Tamil Nadu after the 2004 Tsunami and in Jammu and Kashmir after the 2005 earthquake. CEE has received national and international awards, namely (1)The Ministry of Urban Affairs and Employment, Government of India felicitated Centre for Environment Education, Bangalore. In recognition of their work on Urban Sanitation in Low Income Area and environmentally sound and productive use of city garbage included in the UNCHS 1998 best practices Global 100 lists. (2) Paryavaran Puraskar received from the MoEF in the year 1999. (3) Outstanding Service to Environmental Education Award by the North American Association for Environmental Education for the year 2005. (4) Plasticon 2005 Award by the PlastIndia Foundation in the category of Innovation in Recycling Technology for its innovation of a polyloom in the year 2005. (5) INDIA NGO Award, Celebrating Success Rewarding excellence, Regional Awardee (Joint) West Category Large, in the year 2007. (6) Stratospheric Ozone Layer Protection Award by the Untied States Environmental Protection Agency for the year 2009.
