Belaku Davangere Details of Achievements

BELAKU - a non governmental organisation comprising of like minded police officers and people with social concern formed with the sole intention of providing a Ray of Hope to those who had lost hopes in life with priority to the senior citizens and un cared for youth. To achieve this goal Belaku Engaged in rescuing neglected/single parented children and orphans from work places & streets Provides Protection, Care, Comfort and Education Started a special residential school parting non formal education Started a home for aged. Having a plan to start a vocational training centre and a care home Vision : A world without misery, injustice and inequality and a life with dignity. Mission: To educate, uplift and encourage those deprived of capabilities and opportunities. To provide Hope and Support in order to achieve social justice and security. Objectives : To develop deprived sections of the society both urban and rural irrespective of caste, Creed, Religion and Sect. Empower vulnerable communities specially children, women, senior citizens, people with stigma, dalits and any other people deprived of their rights. Bring in favourable changes by strengthening the voice of the society with better practices to support vulnerable people. Undertake all types of interventions and cooperation in economic and social projects like consultation, evaluation, assessment to strive for the eradication of poverty and inequality, insecurity and undertake research on social, health and developmental issues. Create awareness about health, Nutrition, Hygiene and sanitation. Prevent environmental and social pollution. Target population: Children Women Senior citizens People deprived of fundamental rights Activities Belaku started a residential bridge school ‘Inchara’ at Davangere in the year 2000 for 100 children rescued from hazardous industries and has so far mainstreamed around 800 rescued children by admitting them to government schools and hostels. Inchara Located on the out skirts of Davanagere, retains the rescued children for a year or two, provides basic amenities, and is engaged in capacity building through formal and non-formal education, and also prepares children for mainstreaming into Govt. schools and hostels. The centre apart from providing both non formal and formal system of education laid stress on physical development by involving them in sports, games and cultural programmes. Basic amenities like food, clothing, shelter etc with health care was provided. Counselling was provided to withstand and adjust to circumstances. During the year 2006-07 and 07-08 A day bridge centre for the out of school girl children from the minority community who were supporting their parents livelihood by rolling beedies was run and successfully readmitted those 100 girls to mainstream school. We ensured following activities for education and rehabilitation for children : Ensuring security in the centres Providing basic amenities like nutritional food, safe shelter, clean water etc Ensuring health care Ensuring the quality education Ensure school enrollment Ensure placement of children within family Ensuring the child rights Opportunity for the children to enjoy their childhood Providing psychological support to the children Women: Counselling Advocacy linkage to different agencies to support women at risk Awareness and sensitisation regarding rights of women Care and protection and home placemnt of women and girls who are at risk Care and support to women irresctive of caste, class and religion Vanaprastha : Home for aged: Started home foe aged who are deprived of basic eminities and care and protection. We ensure security, basic amenities like food shelter clothing etc, health care and psychological support in the home. Other support: An average of 10-20 children who are in need were supported every year with school fees, clothes, books etc to retain them in the school Support was provided to get hostel facilities. Single parented and orphans were supported during their school holidays Parents meetings were organized to create awareness among parents about the importance of education. Awareness programmes on the issues like child labour, child marriage, trafficking and other related issues were organized for the SHG members, Youths SDMC members. Workshops were organized for the Municipal members, NGOs and Govt officers on child rights, trafficking etc Participated in the different programmes like trainings, workshops, seminars, International celebrations concerning children.
