An NGO (non-governmental organisation) is a non-profit organisation that operates and functions independently from the government. At times also known as civil societies, NGOs are basically citizen based groups that are organised on the community, national as well as international levels in order to serve specific political or social issues prevalent in the area. Service NGOs mainly look after the provision of healthcare, education, family planning. All such programs are designed by the NGO authorities and then the remaining tasks are carried out or implemented with the help of volunteers.
3. Community based NGO
As the name suggests, such NGOs arise out of people’s own initiatives. Examples of such NGOs are seen in the form of sports clubs, women’s organisations, religious or educational programs, neighbourhood organisations, and many more. Some of the community based NGOs are also supported by national or international NGOs and some of them function independently, all by themselves.
4. Citywide NGOs
Citywide non governmental organisations are mostly involved in helping the poor as of their major form of activities. These organisations include the commonly seen Rotary or Lion’s Club, popular chambers of commerce and industry, ethnic or educational groups, associations of community organisations, coalitions of businesses, etc.
5. Empowering NGOs

8. GSO: GSO is an abbreviation for Grassroots Support Organisations.

10. CHARDS: This is a short form for Community Health and Rural Development Society.
