Development Action Society (DAS) is a woman based organization and is committed towards the development of marginalized women and children through education, health, protection and livelihoods. DAS was established in 1989 with the motto of “development of underprivileged women and children, regardless of their race, creed or religion; changing their world with the right kind of opportunities.” DAS initiated to support and strengthen the capacity of marginalized women and children in the sub-urban disadvantaged population of South and Southeast Kolkata from 1995 onwards. To fulfill our mission, DAS emphasizes on need-based interventions, serve as a resource for the field and enter partnership for funding to support priority-based projects. SAVE THE CHILDREN Overseas 2014-2015 3740701 project-Improving Access to Provide Safe and Hygienic Sanitation Facilities in Urban and Rural India’ The project was implemented in 10 slums of Ward 58. Its main emphasis was on the hardware component of 10 Schools, 10 hand washing stations in Anganwadi centers and renovation of 5 community toilets. The 10 slums had been identified on the basis of poor accessibility to safe drinking water and unhygienic condition. Open defecation is practiced in most of the slums due to no household toilets
SAVE THE CHILDREN Overseas 2014-2015 991737 The programme “Protecting and Empowering Child Domestic Workers” in collaboration with Save the Children to reduce all forms of child labour and build a stronger protective system among the child domestic workers. The project caters to children who are in vulnerable position. The overall aim is to reduce CDW across three states through an integrated approach of prevention, response, system strengthening, awareness raising and evidence sharing.
Save the Children Overseas 2014-2015 937832 The primary target groups of this project are Child Domestic Workers, children at risk of being drawn into child domestic work. The other target groups being; Child Protection Committee (CPC) members, parents/guardians of CDW and at risk children, employers of CDWs, school children and teachers in urban destination areas, residents and community groups in destination areas, govt. duty bearers for Child Protection and staff from local partner NGOs.
Friends of Kolkata Overseas 2014-2015 1678029 Das has undertaken a project on working in 3 areas viz-a -viz education specifically pre-primary and follow –up of formal school students as well as vocational training program located in Tangra, Topsia and Khidderpore.
